APC dismisses reports of exemption from Taraba supplementary election

By John M Tondo

The Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed reports of the party’s exemption from the supplementary election for Jalingo, Yorro Zing Federal Constituency.

It would be recalled that the returning officer in the just concluded by-election, Prof Daniel Ayuba, announced that apart from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Social Democratic party, SDP, no other political party will participate in the forthcoming supplementary election.

However, in a statement released on Saturday by the Publicity Secretary, Aaron Artimas, the party urged its members to ignore the announcement and turn out massively to support the APC candidate, Dr Aminu Malle, in the supplementary election slated for February 14, 2024.

The statement highlighted a recent stakeholders’ meeting convened by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Umar Muktar Gajiram, on February 9, 2024, where he announced that all interested political parties should participate in the forthcoming supplementary election.

According to the statement, during the meeting, the REC clarified that all political parties involved in the February 3, 2024 by-election would participate in the upcoming supplementary election, contrary to earlier announcements.

Artimas reiterated the commitment of the APC to uphold electoral integrity and cautioned members against attempts by opponents to manipulate the election process.

He emphasized the need for vigilance during the supplementary elections to ensure the success of the party and its candidate.

The Jalingo, Yorro Zing Federal Constituency rerun election held on February 3, 2024, was declared inconclusive due to the margin between the leading candidates.

The forthcoming exercise, as noticed by TNEN-News, is scheduled to take place in specific registration areas and polling units across Jalingo, Yorro, and Zing, with heightened security measures to guarantee a fair and peaceful electoral process.
